Cupid’s Fire, Soprano and Piano Duo present Run, Lady, Run: Songs of Love Gone Wrong

Cupid’s Fire, a soprano and piano duo, is the musical brainchild of Leann Schuering and Steven McGhee, who began their collaboration while earning their doctoral degrees at the University of Michigan. There they studied and performed under the world-renowned Martin Katz. Their recital performances are fun and engaging for the audience, with a focus on thematic programming and visual media enhancement.

In addition to the greater Detroit area, they have performed throughout the United States and Europe. As a pianist in the Britten-Pears Young Artist Program in Aldeburgh, England, Steven performed in recitals and master classes under the instruction of Ian Bostridge, Julius Drake, Malcolm Martineau and Christoph Prégardien. Leann was awarded a prestigious Stern Fellowship to study and perform art song at SongFest in Los Angeles with Margo Garrett, Graham Johnson, and Jake Heggie. On the competition circuit, she was an international semi-finalist of the Hans Gabor Belvedere Opera Competition in Düsseldorf, Germany and won Third Prize at the International Czech and Slovak Singing Competition in Montréal.

Closer to home, Leann has performed solo engagements with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, Adrian Symphony Orchestra, and others. She is a two-time District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and a Third Prize recipient at the Regional level. An experienced teacher, she has served on the faculty of Millikin University, taught courses in Voice and Diction at University of Michigan, and served as a guest clinician at University of Portland. Steven is music director for Opera MODO in Detroit, serves on the coaching staff at University of Michigan, and is in demand as a coach and accompanist throughout southeast Michigan.
